A Little Retreat to Sorgente del Gorgazzo

Hi guys, I am sorry that I haven't been active for a while. I was dealing with depression (again) as I knew Dario is going to have his third open heart surgery. He was ill constantly too because he went to school and rarely skipped a day (he loves going to school!) plus the bad weather that hit Europe this spring (low-pressure vortex that brought a lot of rains, chills, and thunderstorm).

Sometimes it's good to take a step back for a while from everything we do before they start to eat us alive. I've always had depression I don't know when did it start but so far I know how to handle the worst part of myself. If you're dealing with depression too maybe you could drop me a message and we can talk about that.

Anyway, June is coming and the sun is splendid and everything, it means that I and my little family can start wandering around belissima italia, at least the northern part. We are actually still waiting for the call of the hospital for the details of Dario's third open heart surgery. He stops going to school and therapy because we're afraid he will be contracted something that can lead to the cancellation of the surgery. He needs to be a 100 percent healthy, as the doctor said.

So last week we decided to go to see one of the deepest underwater cave in the world. It is located in Friuli-Venezia Giulia region, in the small city called Polcenigo.

Sorgente del Gorgazzo is a gem, a turquoise-emerald color of water source that is located in a small Friulian city, 2 hours away from Venice and half hour from Pordenone.

It is an underwater cave that the homonymous torrent affluents the flow of the Livenza river. Its name refers to an 'abyss'. It is no wonder knowing that it is such a deep cave underwater.

The cave consists of a resurgence, one of the deepest ever explored in the world and the second deepest karst source in Europe after the Fonte di Valchiusa in Provence. In 2008, an Italian diver Luigi Casati reached the depth of -212 meters, a limit so far unbeaten due to the danger and strong internal currents. In 2016, the Gorgazzo is still an Italian small basin that should have been explored more deeply.

Near the entrance to the cavity, at a depth of 9 meters, it is said that a statue of a Christ was placed, which thanks to the exceptional clarity of the waters and the bottom is perfectly visible on the outside from the shore on sunny days.

Anyhow, on the day we went there, we couldn't see the statue clearly.

The springs of the Gorgazzo are an important geological site of Friuli region and its extraordinary and unique colors have inspired numerous artists, including Luigi Nono, who in 1872 painted "Le Sorgenti del Gorgazzo", one of his most famous paintings, with which the following year he participated in the three-year exhibition of the Accademia di Brera. The work was later bought by the Venetian Michelangelo Guggenheim.

In 1877 the geographer Giovanni Marinelli composed a sonnet, recorded in a stone near the lake, in which he described the body of water of the Gorgazzo as " the liquid sky".

«Prendete il colore dello smeraldo,
quello delle turchesi, quelli dei berilli,
gettateli in un bagno di lapislazzoli,
in modo che tutto si fonda
e ad un tempo conservi l'originalità sua propria,
ed avrete quella porzione di cielo liquido
che si chiama il Gorgazzo»

Polcenigo and the river
That hot sunny day when we arrived in Polcenigo, from afar, I could watch how brilliance is the reflection of the water of the river. Apart from being famous for Sorgente del Gorgazzo, this small city is also a pack full of beauty. Its transcendence, tranquilità that helps your soul to connect to mother nature. Oh, I love being here. The sound of water flowing and the chirps or birds are so priceless.

We wandered around to see the river, to see its beauty from many angles. They are breathtaking! (You're all breathtaking- Keanu Reeves)

The more we walk, the more heartwarming is the scenery...

Dario was having fun too and enjoyed the scenery a lot. He even rejected to go home and cried because I told him to go. It is good to see him enjoy the nature and appreciate it like it should be, but I have to be careful not to get him too much exposure of the sunshine especially in the summer when it is sometimes unbearable for someone with heart disease.

Afterall, it was such a happy day. We are grateful.. What are you grateful of lately? tell me in the comment section!
